Maor Seniors is a social club for senior English speaking residents of Beit Shemesh. All activities are for both men and women. Our activities are mainly designed for older adults, but all adults are welcome to attend. We plan activities such as guest speakers, homemade dinners, holiday parties and day trips.
Our “home” base is Kehillat Menorat HaMaor, whose facilities we use for many events. Our membership charge is only NIS 30 a year per person. Our trips are subsidized by the Iriyah of Beit Shemesh so the cost per person is very affordable. If at the end of the year, we have a profit, the money goes to various charities in Beit Shemesh and to Menorat Hamaor. In the past, we have donated to Kehillat Menorat HaMaor, Menorat HaMaor Tzedakah Fund, Lma’an Achai, and Ezrat Achim to name a few.
Examples of past trips are: Hebrew Music Museum in Jerusalem; Air Force Museum at Hatzerim, near Beer Sheva; Knesset tour and plenary session observation; Eretz Israel Museum and Planetarium; Tzipori; Yad Mordechai, Israel Guide Dog Center in Oved Yehuda. Examples of lectures are: Encounters with the FBI; history of the IDF; Jewish roots of Thanksgiving and dinner; Chinese dinner with talk about the country, Jewish Influence on World History weekly series and many more.
